Process of Waste Plastic Film Recycling for Wood-Plastic Composite (WPC) Product Production

1. Overview of Waste Plastic Film as WPC Raw Material

Wood-plastic composite (WPC) products mainly adopt PE and PP as core base materials. Waste agricultural films and packaging films dominated by PE materials are high-quality recycled raw materials for WPC production. However, waste plastic films are often tangled, mixed with impurities and low in density, which cannot be directly used for WPC flooring and other product processing. It is necessary to adopt professional recycling and pretreatment processes to realize the efficient reuse of waste plastic films. Taking Yongte's waste plastic film recycling line as an example, this paper elaborates the complete technical process of converting waste plastic films into qualified raw materials for WPC decking production.

2. Complete Dry Recycling Process of Waste Plastic Film

The waste plastic film recycling line adopts an integrated dry automatic processing design, realizing impurity removal, purification and granulation of mixed waste films through physical processing, with no water consumption and no secondary pollution. The specific process steps are as follows:

2.1 Shredding and Fragmentation

The collected mixed waste plastic films are sent to a shredder. The built-in cutting blades shear large-volume, tangled waste films into small fragments with uniform particle size. This process solves the problem of irregular shape and large volume of raw waste films, laying a foundation for subsequent efficient impurity removal and granulation processing.

2.2 Dry Cleaning and Light Impurity Removal

The shredded film fragments enter the dry cleaning stage. Different from the traditional water washing process, this technology relies on air separation and physical friction to thoroughly remove light impurities such as sediment and dust attached to the surface of the films. The whole process is water-free, avoiding wastewater discharge and subsequent sewage treatment links.

2.3 Magnetic Separation and Metal Purification

After dry cleaning, the materials pass through a strong magnetic separator, which can fully adsorb and remove mixed ferrous metal impurities in the film fragments. This key step effectively prevents hard metal impurities from damaging subsequent granulation and extrusion equipment, ensuring the stability of production operation and the quality of finished particles.

2.4 Compression Granulation

The purified low-density film fragments are finally sent to a compression granulator. Through professional extrusion and compression molding, loose film fragments are processed into high-density, uniform and clean PE plastic granules. The whole production line is highly automated, requiring only a small number of operators to complete the full-process operation. The finished PE granules have the characteristics of low impurity content and uniform density, which can be directly used in the subsequent production of WPC DECKING.

3. Core Advantages of Dry Recycling Process

3.1 Environmental Protection and Pollution-Free Production

Compared with the traditional water-washing plastic film recycling process, the dry recycling solution completely cancels the wastewater treatment link, saving the corresponding treatment cost. At the same time, it avoids the secondary pollution of plastic materials caused by water washing, fully conforming to the current green and environmental protection production standards of the plastics recycling industry.

3.2 Cost Reduction and Efficiency Improvement

Compressing loose waste films into high-density plastic pellets greatly reduces the volume of recycled materials, significantly cutting the transportation and storage costs of recycling enterprises. Meanwhile, it improves the material turnover efficiency of recycling operators, and the finished granules do not need complex secondary pretreatment, effectively reducing the raw material processing cost of downstream WPC flooring manufacturers.

3.3 Strong Compatibility and Customization

This recycling solution has a wide application range. It is not only applicable to PE waste films, but also can realize decontamination and granulation treatment for PP, PVC and other types of waste plastic films, covering most waste plastic film recycling scenarios in the market. In addition, Yongte can provide customized production line configuration according to the different capacity needs of customers, and adjust process parameters in real time according to the impurity content of incoming materials, so as to ensure the stable and qualified quality of recycled plastic particles.

4. Application of Recycled Particles in WPC Product Manufacturing

The recycled PP and PE pellets produced by this process do not need secondary crushing, rinsing and other additional pretreatment procedures, and can be directly used for WPC product production. In actual production, the recycled plastic particles are mixed with wood powder and special processing additives in a fixed proportion, then sent to WPC extrusion equipment for plasticization and extrusion molding, and finally processed into finished products such as WPC flooring, decking and wall panels.

5. Economic and Environmental Value of Waste Film Recycling for WPC Production

The reuse of waste plastic film granules in WPC products replaces part of virgin plastic raw materials, which can greatly reduce the raw material procurement cost of WPC manufacturers and effectively reduce the consumption of new plastic resources. At the same time, it realizes the resource recycling of waste plastics, reduces the carbon footprint of WPC products, and balances economic benefits and ecological environmental benefits. This processing mode conforms to the green production concept and circular economy development trend under the dual carbon goals, and provides a mature, efficient and green sustainable development solution for the plastics recycling and WPC manufacturing industry.
